Ukraine
Authorities in the northeastern Kharkiv region of Ukraine on Tuesday urged citizens of more than 20 villages to evacuate. According to the authorities, the call comes as a result of an increase in Russian attacks. Russian forces seized large parts of the Kharkiv region when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Since then, the Russians have lost ground in the area, but Russian attacks continue. This includes near the regional hub of Kupyansk, which has important rail connections. In Kupyansk, there was a pre-war population of about 30, 000 people. The evacuation order will cover just over 3,000 people in the villages, including almost 280 children, according to the governor of Kharkiv. /ritzau/
