A Ukrainian attack on Sunday targeting a market in the city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine has killed at least 25 people. This is according to the head of the Russian-occupied Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin. He said Ukrainian artillery shelled the city. Pushilin said earlier in the day that the attack had claimed at least 13 lives. He described the Ukrainian bombardment as “appalling”. Ukraine has not commented on the attack. The city’s mayor, Alexei Kulemzin, said earlier in the day that the attack had taken place in an area with shops and a market. The Ukrainian city of Donetsk came under the control of pro-Russian separatists in 2014. It is frequently subject to Ukrainian attacks. /ritzau/AFP
