Uncertain when Danes can leave Gaza

The Foreign Ministry is ready to pick up Danes from an evacuation list at Gaza’s border crossing with Egypt, but there is currently no timeframe, the Foreign Ministry said in an email to Ritzau on Thursday. “Denmark is working purposefully to get people on the Danish evacuation list out of Gaza as soon as possible, but it is currently impossible to say when this will happen,” the ministry writes. The ministry’s estimates suggest that the overall operation to get foreigners out of Gaza, where Israel has launched a major offensive, will take a few weeks. “There are currently estimated to be more than 7,000 foreigners who want to leave Gaza, and there is talk of a capacity of about 500 a day,” the ministry said. The Foreign Ministry has previously stated that it is in contact with approximately 20 Danes who are in Gaza. /ritzau/
