A majority in the House of Representatives has decided to remove Republican Kevin McCarthy as Speaker. This became clear after a vote in the House of Representatives late on Tuesday night, according to Reuters. This is the first time in the history of the United States that the speaker has been overthrown by a vote. 216 voted to remove McCarthy. 210 voted against it, according to The New York Times. McCarthy’s fellow Republican Matt Gaetz had tabled a motion to remove 58-year-old McCarthy. Gaetz and other right-wing Republicans are unhappy with McCarthy, who recently struck a deal with Democrats on a temporary budget. /ritzau/
