Vehicle organisations call for charges

Traffic jams on motorways and major express roads are likely to only get longer in the future unless something is done about the problem. Therefore, four car associations believe that politicians should introduce driving charges that can reduce congestion on the roads. The Danish Car Importers, FDM, DI Transport and the Car Industry believe that they should take advantage of the technological opportunities to register drivers’ driving and collect taxes. Driving during rush hour on busy stretches, it should be more expensive than driving on smaller roads in the middle of the day or evening. “We can see that congestion is a major challenge today, and it will only get worse in the future. That is why mechanisms are needed to regulate it, as is done in a number of other countries. And the technology exists. In fact, and is already used on heavy traffic today,” says Mads Rørvig, CEO of De Danske Bilimporterer (Ed: Danish vehicle importers). /ritzau/
