Vestager announces EIB candidacy

Danish EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager has officially announced that she is a candidate for President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and is taking a leave of absence from the European Commission. She confirmed her candidacy on Tuesday evening. “As of today, I am officially a candidate to become President of the European Investment Bank,” said Vestager, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission. “So I am taking unpaid leave from my work at the European Commission to focus on my candidacy. This means that you will not hear from me about my work for the Commission in the coming weeks” said Vestager, who is one of several candidates for the post, and Spanish Finance Minister Nadia Calviño is considered to be the strongest competitor. /ritzau/
