Vestager prepared to continue as EU Commissioner
Margrethe Vestager would like to continue as EU Commissioner when her term expires next year, she says in an interview with Altinget. Vestager emphasises that it is still early to consider a third term. But she is keeping her “options open”, she tells the media. When the European elections are held in summer 2024, a new European Commission will be appointed. Margrethe Vestager has just returned to her post as European Commissioner after being on unpaid leave because she was a candidate for a job as President of the European Investment Bank. Vestager did not get the job, which instead went to Spain’s finance minister, Nadia Calviño. In the EU, Margrethe Vestager has been Commissioner for Competition and Executive Vice-President. As Commissioner for Competition, she has made a name for herself by imposing billions in fines on companies such as Google and Apple. /ritzau/
