Youngest Danish woman to conquer Mt. Everest
26-year-old Emma Østergaard from Aarhus is the youngest Danish woman to have climbed the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, according to Din Avis Aarhus and Se og Hør on their websites. Early On Tuesday 23 May, Emma Østergaard reached the top of Mount Everest – 8848 meters above sea level along with her guide Jakob Urth, who also climbed the mountain in 2018. “With the project, I want to show girl power. It is not about feminism or equality, but about showing that we women are strong and have the will and strength to plunge into deep water and climb the mountains of life,” Emma Østergaard has previously told Din Avis Aarhus. Together with her guide, she traveled towards Nepal and Mount Everest at the end of March. Emma Østergaard writes herself into the history books as the 20th Dane to reach the top of Mount Everest. The first Danish woman at the top was Lene Gammelgaard in 1996. /ritzau/
