Amazon requires full-time office teturn

Starting January 2, 2025, Amazon employees must be present in the office five days a week, according to a directive by CEO Andy Jassy sent to staff on Monday. Jassy cited the past five years, indicating the significant benefits of in-person collaboration at the office. Work-from-home practices were widely adopted during the pandemic’s outset in early 2020, and despite difficulties in returning staff to offices, particularly in big cities with long commutes, Amazon had already enforced a three-day office requirement in February 2023. However, exceptions will be made for certain circumstances, such as an employee’s child being sick or if someone was initially hired with the agreement to work from home. Amazon, which began as a bookstore and evolved into one of the largest online retailers, employs between 300,000 and 350,000 office staff, not including its approximately 1.5 million warehouse workers and delivery personnel.
