Denmark’s next green tech impact uncertain

Denmark has been a major player in the development of wind turbines aiding the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions globally. However, according to an analysis by Klimarådet, the Danish climate advisory council, the country does not show clear signs of making a similar impactful mark with other climate technologies at this point. Klimarådet’s review of ten sectors vital for Denmark’s long-term transition reveals potential in Power-to-X (PtX) technology, though challenges arise from a relatively small hydrogen consumption. Presently, Denmark is in the upper segment of wealthy countries concerning public investment in climate-related research, patents, and export, primarily due to its wind turbine technology. But being a driver in new climate technologies, which are essential to avoid future greenhouse gas emissions, requires immediate investment in research and development. Green Power Denmark urges that a minimum of 2.5 billion DKK be allocated annually to green research until 2030.
