SAS secures presence in Sweden with billion deal

SAS has signed a seven-year agreement with Swedish airline Braathens Regional Airways (BRA) valued at six billion Swedish kronor. The deal will enable BRA to serve domestic routes in Sweden on behalf of SAS and is expected to enhance activity at Copenhagen Airport. SAS CEO Anko van der Werff views the partnership as evidence of SAS’s long-term commitment to Sweden. This announcement comes after SAS’s exit from over two years of bankruptcy protection. The new ownership includes Castlelake, Air France-KLM, Lind Invest, and the Danish state. Jacob Pedersen from Sydbank interprets the deal as a sign of an assertive SAS in Scandinavia, with SAS now poised for expansion due to a reduction in debt and costs. Future strategies will likely feature Copenhagen as a central hub in SAS’s offensive initiatives.
