SAS expands with 15 new routes from Copenhagen

SAS airline is set to open 15 new routes from Copenhagen Airport next summer, aiming to create an international air traffic hub. This includes long-missed destinations such as Krakow, Madrid, Budapest, and Malta, and resuming flights to Billund after five years. Additionally, SAS is reviving its long-distance route to Seattle, USA after a 16-year hiatus. Following a period of bankruptcy protection, SAS has restructured, wiping out part of its debt and emerging with new owners. CEO Anko van der Werff states that SAS is on track to become a competitive and financially strong airline, enhancing connectivity and economic growth across Denmark and Scandinavia. Recently, SAS also announced a seven-year deal worth SEK 6 billion with Braathens Regional Airways (BRA) to handle domestic routes in Sweden and feed more activity to Copenhagen Airport. New board chairman Kåre Schultz calls this an ‘optimization’ phase for SAS.
