NYC Mayor indicted for bribery

NYC Mayor Eric Adams faces an indictment for receiving illicit campaign donations and luxury travels from Turkish individuals aiming to influence him, as announced on Thursday. Adams, facing five charges including fraud, is the first sitting mayor to be criminally charged. He allegedly accepted benefits from foreign businessmen and a Turkish official, and in exchange, pressured city officials to open Turkey’s consulate despite security issues. Adams denies all charges, maintaining they are false and based on lies, and insists on staying in office. The Turkish government has not responded to requests for comment. The case could hinder Adams’ re-election bid in 2025.
