Copenhagen Metro’s busiest month

Copenhagen’s Metro saw a record 11.2 million passengers in September, the highest in a single month. The increase is attributed to the opening of five new stations in Sydhavn and Valby. Hanne Tærsbøl Schmidt, the company’s director, noted that the new stations on the M4 line have been well-received, with twice as many passengers as expected initially. The growth reflects the rapid adoption by local residents and businesses. Moreover, a message of the metro as a sustainable travel option is continuously promoted. On September 15, the metro experienced a record Sunday with approximately 400,000 passengers, partly due to a half marathon in Copenhagen. Since its 2002 opening, the metro, now with 44 stations and 43 kilometers of track, has carried over 1.2 billion passengers. Copenhagen’s driverless metro, one of the few in the world, operates around the clock.
