Maersk considers multibillion acquisition

In early February, Maersk’s CEO Vincent Clerc expressed interest in acquiring German logistics company DB Schenker. The Danish shipping giant has now hired advisors to explore whether the acquisition makes sense. In the past, Maersk had been dismissive of buying a forwarding company but is now seriously contemplating it. Clerc stresses the importance of making the right decision looking back. Danish transport company DSV, also considered a favorite for acquiring DB Schenker, has engaged HSBC and BNP Paribas for advice. With potential costs exceeding 100 billion Danish kroner, it could become the largest deal in Danish history. DB Schenker, owned by Deutsche Bahn, is the world’s fourth-largest logistics company. If DSV purchases it, they would leap to the industry’s top position, significantly ahead of the second place.
