17 games reported for manipulative design

Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, and Pokemon Go are among 17 games reported to the Consumer Ombudsman by Forbrugerrådet Tænk, for violating marketing laws. All the mentioned games feature in-game purchases displayed in virtual currencies, such as Robux or PokéCoins, making it difficult for consumers to discern the real cost. The council suggests this design encourages excessive spending, which raises concerns, particularly because these games target children. Seven of the reported games are filed in coordination with European consumer organizations. Uffe Rabe Krag, political head at the council, describes the situation as unacceptable and believes authorities should enforce transparency in pricing. The council also encourages parents to monitor their children’s gaming and its financial implications.
