Randers psychiatry gets new leadership

The Psychiatric Department of Randers requires new leadership following a whistleblower report concerning a psychiatrist. The previous leadership’s last workday has already passed, under a mutual agreement with no reason stated by the region. The concerned psychiatrist was sent home in February after a whistleblower raised alarms in January about the quality of their work, highlighting 13 specific patient cases, including a suicide and two attempted murders. According to Frihedsbrevet, 21 issues were listed in a complaint to the Danish Patient Safety Authority, such as failure to properly assess patient danger and the risk of suicide. The psychiatrist was dismissed in May, though management reportedly knew of the issues prior to the complaint. An alarm was raised back in 2019 regarding the psychiatrist’s treatment approaches. Ongoing investigations are trying to identify patients who might require further review of their treatment. About 1,500 patients treated by this psychiatrist will be contacted for potential case reviews.
