Webshops to control age for alcohol and tobacco

As of October 1st, online purchasers of alcohol, nicotine pouches, or e-cigarettes are required to present MitID, passport, driver’s license, or other valid ID for age verification, according to a press release by the Danish Safety Technology Authority. The previous method of age verification was insufficient in preventing minors from acquiring these products. The new procedure necessitates valid age proof before a purchase can be completed, with the specific type of ID varying per webshop. Regular checks will be conducted by the Authority to ensure compliance. This measure is part of the government’s prevention plan introduced by Interior and Health Minister Sophie Løhde to reduce tobacco, nicotine, and alcohol consumption among minors. Violations can lead to police reports, and similar checks are performed in physical stores using underage test purchasers.
