Kasper Sand Kjær resigns as chairman amid fraud case

Former Danish MP Kasper Sand Kjær has resigned as chairman of the Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy (DIPD) following an ongoing fraud case. He communicated his decision, indicating he did not want the case to hinder DIPD’s mission to advance democracy globally. Sand Kjær is accused of falsely reporting his credit card stolen and misusing it to withdraw approximately 45,310 DKK. He attempted to have the bank reimburse the amount, leading to charges of attempted fraud and false reporting. Prosecutors are seeking a prison sentence. The alleged crime occurred when he was still a member of parliament on May 25, 2023. In 2019, he was elected to the Folketing and became chairman of DIPD, stepping down from parliament on October 31, 2023, to pursue new opportunities.
