Coin auction earns over 110 million DKK

The heirs of the wealthy Lars Emil Bruun stand to inherit a substantial sum after the first part of his coin collection was auctioned. The auction in Copenhagen lasted eight and a half hours and garnered a total of 14.820.900 euros (approximately 110.6 million DKK) for 286 coins, exceeding estimates by about 25%. The event attracted international attention, with active participation from especially American buyers. The most expensive coin, a gold coin from 1496, sold for around 8.9 million DKK to a Danish buyer. Stacks’ Bowers, tasked with selling about 20,000 coins from the collection, estimates the total value at around half a billion DKK, expecting to take five years to complete the sale. The collection, stored at Frederiksborg Castle and in the National Museum’s basement, includes pieces bought by the National Museum itself.
