Wrong bottle causes library explosion

A chemistry show at Tønder Library resulted in an explosion due to the incorrect use of a screw-cap bottle instead of a cork-stoppered bottle. This mistake occurred during an experiment called ‘Spirit in the Bottle’, meant to safely release a gas plume. Institute leader Kim Lambertsen Larsen of Aalborg University reported that a 22-year old man conducting the experiment suffered hand injuries and was hospitalized, while three children sustained minor cuts from glass. The man is now discharged and in good condition. The university will revise safety protocols and enhance staff training to prevent recurrence. Responsibility for the safety oversight is taken by Larsen. Investigations by the Working Environment Authority and the South Jutland Police are ongoing to determine if any laws were violated.
