Denmark wins first WorldSkills gold in 13 years

Denmark has claimed a gold medal at the WorldSkills competition in Lyon, marking their first victory in the event in 13 years. Kristian Bak Hansen secured the gold in the tiling trade, while Birgitte Brunsgaard Jacobsen earned bronze as an agricultural machinery mechanic. The success was hailed by the chairman of SkillsDenmark, Søren Heisel, who praised the apprentices’ hard work and talent. Birgitte made history as the first woman to win a WorldSkills medal in her trade. The last Danish gold medal at the WorldSkills Championships was in London in 2011. In the 2021 competition, Denmark’s team of 20 craftsmen competed in various skills, including cooking and industrial mechanics, and received nine Medallions of Excellence. Denmark finished 14th out of 70 participating countries.
