Actors receive prestigious Lauritzen Award

On Sunday evening, the prestigious Lauritzen Award was handed out at the Folketeatret in Copenhagen. Actors Birgitte Hjort Sørensen and Anders W. Berthelsen were the recipients this year, according to a press release from the Lauritzen Foundation. Each actor received 250,000 tax-free Danish Kroner and an additional 50,000 Kroner to support a social cause of their choice. Sørensen donated her share to Save the Children Denmark, and Berthelsen chose the organization ‘Askovhus,’ which assists individuals with eating disorders and their families. The award committee recognized both actors for their courage and their nuance in portraying relatability. The Lauritzen Award is Denmark’s oldest and most significant acting prize, first awarded in 1965 and was initially named the Henkel Prize until it was renamed in 1993. Annually, it honors one male and one female actor who has made a notable contribution to Danish theater, television, or film.
