PM pledges protection for worn-out workers

In a speech at the Trade Union Summit, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen vows to create a new protective circle around workers’ pension rights, by putting an end to the automatic increase in the pension age for all groups. She emphasizes the importance of a just pension age and the need to stop extending the working years indefinitely. The Prime Minister acknowledges the current times of high employment and low unemployment as historically beneficial but insists on further improvement. She aims to focus more on family and work life, mentioning issues like fertility support and a better work-life balance. Frederiksen also recalls the Social Democrats’ previous implementation of the Arne pension for the most worn-out workers and suggests a forthcoming pension reform. Last August, she opened up discussions on the pension age and indicated a potential differential approach for vulnerable workers. The government is currently seeking expert guidance for refining the pension system.
