Conservatives push for eviction of criminals

The Conservative Party in Denmark proposes new measures to evict criminals involved in serious personal harm crimes from public housing, with a focus on targeting gang members. Mai Mercado, the party’s legal spokesperson, argues the necessity of such measures given the evolving nature of gang crime. The party aims to give courts the authority to decide on evictions, rather than housing associations, to prevent potential threats against them. Additionally, the Conservatives want to enforce more geographical exclusion orders using electronic monitoring devices. Although it’s possible for housing associations to currently evict criminals, the responsibility can be too great. Mercado notes that the new practice could impact criminals outside of gangs, but gang members should face this judicial decision every time. After eviction, the criminal should not be allowed to return to the area of the crime, enforced by a device alerting police to their location.
