Royal couple ends sailing season on Dannebrog

King Frederik and Queen Mary arrived at Nordre Toldbod in Copenhagen on Wednesday afternoon, marking the end of their first sailing season with the royal yacht ‘Dannebrog’. Their summer cruise stopped in Bornholm, Ærø, Assens, and Vejle. Earlier in the year, the royal pair also visited Norway and Sweden, and the ship served as their base during their trip to Greenland in late June. A ‘strygemiddag’ dinner at Amalienborg will conclude the season where officers from ‘Dannebrog’ are invited to dine with the royal couple and the command sign is removed from the ship. The crew is selected from the navy. Queen Margrethe will also attend the dinner. The summer tour, starting on August 19 and lasting four days, included visits to various local landmarks. This tradition dates back to King Christian X and is a significant part of Danish monarchy’s identity, uniting the country beyond Copenhagen and North Zealand.
