Vestager named chair of DTU board

Margrethe Vestager, the current Danish EU Commissioner, will become the chairperson of the board at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) at the turn of the year, as announced by DTU. Helle Vang Andersen of the nomination committee praised Vestager’s fit for a technical university with an ambitious strategy emphasizing digitalization, top engineering education, and sustainability. Vestager sees it as a privilege to lead the board and believes DTU will play a significant role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity, living conditions, and security through technology. Prior to this role, Vestager served as the EU’s Competition Commissioner and held various political positions including Danish economy and interior minister. Her appointment has been unanimously supported by two committees and approved by the Minister for Higher Education and Science. Following the EU parliamentary election, Denmark has nominated former Social Democratic minister Dan Jørgensen for the role of Danish commissioner.
