Swede gets five years for grenade blast

A 19-year-old Swedish national, Jonas Ali Khattab, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for a grenade attack on a jewelry store in Valby, Denmark. Khattab contended that he was forced into the crime due to a debt. The attack, which involved an unsuccessful attempt to break a store window with a cinder block before detonating a grenade, resulted in no casualties but caused significant property damage. Khattab has been permanently banned from Denmark as a whole. The incident is part of a troubling trend of young Swedes being recruited for serious crimes in Denmark. Despite pleading coercion, Khattab received a substantial penalty intended to deter others. His defense argued for leniency, stating Khattab was a minor player in a larger criminal context.
