Lemur recaptured after three-day escape

A lemur that had escaped from Aalborg Zoo and was free for almost three days has been recaptured. The lemur had been spotted by a dog walker who then alerted the zoo. The zoo’s staff used bananas to lure the lemur into a transport crate without the need for a net. It is believed that the lemur escaped because it had not yet settled into the zoo’s hierarchy, possibly feeling pressured by the alpha female. During its time at large, the zoo received 20 to 30 reports of sightings and warned the public not to approach the lemur, as it could bite when stressed. This escape is not the zoo’s first; a black panther escaped in 1971 and was found and subsequently shot. The zoo has also seen escapes by chimpanzees, a snake, and a toucan.
