Support for a new bigger Parken stadium

Discussions are open for state support in upgrading Copenhagen’s football stadium, Parken. Danish culture spokespersons from the three ruling parties, interviewed by Berlingske, are not ruling out government involvement, comparing it to national institutions like The Royal Theater. Mogens Jensen expresses openness to state engagement, while Jan E. Jørgensen emphasizes the need for economic sense in investment. Tobias Grotkjær Elmstrøm insists the state should not be the sole payer. The proposal follows appeals from Copenhagen’s culture and leisure mayor, Mia Nyegaard, urging state contribution to the stadium’s expansion. The Danish Football Association (DBU) has dreams of expansion, but investors haven’t been forthcoming. The owner, Parken Sport & Entertainment, only wants renovation, not expansion. Parken, with a capacity of around 38,000, constantly sells out for Danish matches, prompting considerations for increased capacity.
