PM calls for ceasefire in Gaza

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has intensified her rhetoric and now calls for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the protection of civilians, especially children suffering from worsening food shortages. Following a briefing on Gaza’s children by Save the Children, Frederiksen described the humanitarian situation as ‘heartbreaking’ and ‘catastrophic.’ The WHO reported acute shortages of food, water, and medicine in northern and southern Gaza. Criticism has been directed at Israel for impeding the delivery of aid into Gaza while the need remains high. The USA plans to construct a temporary port to alleviate the crisis. Frederiksen also points towards a two-state solution as the long-term resolution to the conflict, which escalated on October 7th with a severe attack by Hamas and subsequent Israeli military operations aiming to dismantle the group.
