Denmark to acquire new Arctic warships

Denmark’s Defense Minister, Troels Lund Poulsen, plans to replace the Navy’s aging Thetis-class inspection ships. According to Danish broadcaster DR, these ships, primarily operating around Greenland and the Faroe Islands, are over 30 years old and worn out to a point where they struggle to fulfill their duties. The renewal comes amid reports that with these four ships, Denmark is not meeting NATO’s core force requirements for warships. Additionally, two of the Navy’s Knud Rasmussen-class inspection vessels, also serving in Greenlandic waters, are currently out of action due to failed auxiliary engines. The new ships’ timeline for becoming operational remains unclear.
