German border checks may cause delays, warns Danish police

Syd- og Sønderjyllands Politi have warned of potential traffic queues at the Danish border due to Germany introducing spot-check border controls on Monday. The move is a reaction to violent incidents in Nordrhein-Westfalen on August 23, where a Syrian asylum seeker, previously expelled, killed three and injured eight. Germany’s government, aiming to boost internal security and tackle irregular migration, decided on visible action from September 9. Checks at various German borders, including the Danish one, will continue for six months, potentially causing delays, which are further exacerbated by roadworks at the Frøslev crossing. The police advise planning additional travel time and considering alternative crossings, affecting daily commuters between the two countries.
