Roskilde and Aalborg universities hit hardest by study deal

Starting from 2025 to 2029, the intake at Roskilde University will be reduced by 14.1% and at Aalborg University by 12.1%, following a newly implemented education sector dimensioning agreement. The universities of Roskilde and Aalborg are the most affected in relative terms, with Roskilde losing 203 places and Aalborg 443, although in absolute numbers, other institutions like the University of Copenhagen will lose more seats. Overall, the new dimensioning involves a 10% reduction totaling 2,654 places across Danish universities. This redistribution will be re-evaluated every five years. Various organizations and associations criticized the agreement, arguing it harms the competencies needed by Danish industry and potentially weakens competitiveness. However, the director of SMVdanmark, representing small and medium-sized businesses, praised the government for aligning education with actual job market demands.
